A late goal changed the result.Keep the progress. Find a point.

San Marino were level in Tirana until stoppage time, then lost 2–1. The table still shows four defeats, but the next task is more specific than simply surviving League C: keep an outlet, support the next pass and turn a competitive spell into the first point of this campaign.

Where San Marino stand now

The current situation

The opening League C window was a much harder examination than the promotion campaign. Four defeats produced one goal scored and sixteen conceded. The final game was the closest: Lorenzo Lazzari equalised in Albania, before a stoppage-time penalty turned a possible draw into a 2–1 defeat.

That late setback does not erase the difference between a seven-goal opening loss and a game still level after ninety minutes. It does not supply a point either. San Marino need to make the useful parts repeatable: a receiver who can retain the first forward pass, a second player arriving in a different lane and enough cover to defend the next turnover.

Fourth place is already unavoidable because the maximum is six points and every rival already has at least seven. Under UEFA’s announced restructuring, third- and fourth-placed League C teams remain in League C for 2028/29. The next two matches are therefore a first-points challenge, not an invented relegation decider.

Albania 2–1 San Marino

Lazzari equalised in the 66th minute on 6 October. The deciding penalty came in added time.

A home league match on 12 November precedes the Finland return at Bolt Arena on 15 November.

Recovery is not a selection notice

FSGC reported September operations for Berardi and Riccardi. Those estimates are not evidence of a new clearance.

Our readingThe first forward pass should do more than move the ball away from goal. A nearby diagonal outlet can give the receiver a return option, while a higher runner prevents the opposition from pressing every short pass at once. The aim is a usable second action, not more players standing ahead of the ball.

FSGC’s dated match and medical reports provide the completed events; UEFA supplies the competition record and format. The page calculates charts from published scores and separates medical estimates, past suspensions and an unannounced November selection. Tactical judgments are TrophyDrought editorial analysis, not statements from the coaching staff.

San Marino's 2026 checkpoint

1 LEAGUE GOAL

Lazzari’s Tirana equaliser is San Marino’s only goal in the four-game sample.

0 POINTS

All four matches were Nations League games. There is no friendly mixed into these totals.

2 FIXTURES LEFT

The home appointment and Finland away offer six possible points, too few to change fourth place.

The checkpoints describe completed events. The result chart calculates from the published scores, not invented team or player ratings.

The 2024 promotion remains a genuine achievement, but League C has exposed a different competitive level. A first point and more sustained attacking sequences are meaningful immediate targets. Fourth place does not send San Marino to League D under UEFA’s announced 2028/29 structure. Neither remaining in a league nor reaching a future finals tournament is the major title tracked by TrophyDrought.

San Marino can reach six points, below every rival’s existing total. Fourth place is therefore already fixed. The order of the two seven-point teams follows head-to-head points: Finland took one point from those two meetings, so a better overall goal difference does not put them ahead.

Under UEFA’s announced three-league structure for 2028/29, third- and fourth-placed League C teams remain in League C. Fourth does not mean relegation to League D, and remaining in this league does not guarantee a EURO place or a major title.

Three questions that define the autumn

Editorial watchlist

Can the first outlet remain connected?

An isolated forward can win a difficult ball and still lose the next action. Give Giacopetti a nearby return option and keep a second receiver on a different line. The model explores that relationship without describing an official November formation.

Can an arrival be later rather than farther forward?

Lazzari’s equaliser is a useful reminder that a midfielder can become the finishing player. The next question is how the move creates space for that arrival. It is not evidence that the same move will succeed again or that he is guaranteed to start.

What shape remains after an attack?

Sending both supporting players beyond the ball may leave the first turnover unopposed. A defender beneath the move and a midfielder within passing distance can provide an exit before possession is lost and a recovery position afterwards.

Give Giacopetti a return option

Colombo begins the illustrative route, Lorenzo Capicchioni offers a central connection and Giacopetti is the higher reference. Lazzari remains in another lane. These names come from the completed Tirana match sheet, not a confirmed November eleven.

The target needs support before the pass arrives.

This diagram explains relationships, not a confirmed formation. Player availability, squad selection and roles can change before the match window.

Players who shape the next step

Roles, not a predicted XI
An arrival that changed the Tirana game

Lorenzo Lazzari

FSGC credits him with the equaliser against Albania. The illustration and analysis use that completed contribution, not a promised November role or a fabricated rating.

A forward reference from the completed window

Nicolas Giacopetti

He featured in all four league games in UEFA’s record and started in Tirana. The diagram asks how support around him could work; it does not announce the next starting striker.

The goalkeeper behind the next first pass

Edoardo Colombo

UEFA records four appearances and FSGC describes his saves in Tirana. A schematic passing route from the goalkeeper is an editorial idea, not an instruction attributed to Cevoli.

A recovery estimate is not a new clearance.

Squad and availability watch

Cevoli and the completed-window names

Roberto Cevoli is listed by FSGC and UEFA. Giacopetti, Lazzari, Della Balda, Lorenzo Capicchioni, Fabbri and Colombo feature in the completed Tirana team sheet. Their use here is an editorial watchlist, not a prediction of the next eleven.

Berardi and Riccardi: a dated medical report

FSGC’s 29 September bulletin reported operations performed on 28 September: right-knee ACL reconstruction for Filippo Berardi and left-knee meniscus surgery for Alberto Riccardi. Recovery was estimated at six to eight months and two to three months respectively. Those are published estimates, not a new clearance or November selection.

Past suspensions need a date attached

FSGC’s 5 October notice listed Nanni and Riggioni as suspended for the completed Albania match. It is not a November absence list. A final November call-up is not established in the checked sources; a roster listing does not prove fitness, selection or eligibility.

San Marino Now FAQs

Quick answers
When is San Marino’s next match?

The next confirmed senior fixture is a home Nations League C1 match on 12 November 2026 at San Marino Stadium in Serravalle, kicking off at 20:45 local/CET or 19:45 UTC. The opponent is intentionally labelled Other C1 team on this page, not unconfirmed.

When do San Marino play Finland?

Finland host San Marino at Bolt Arena in Helsinki on 15 November 2026. Kickoff is 19:00 Finnish local/EET, equivalent to 17:00 UTC or 18:00 CET in San Marino.

What was San Marino’s latest result?

A 2–1 away defeat by Albania on 6 October 2026. Lorenzo Lazzari equalised in the 66th minute; Albania scored the winning penalty in added time.

How many Nations League points do San Marino have?

Zero from four matches. They have scored once, conceded sixteen and lost all four games. Each result in this autumn sample is a league match, not a friendly.

Can San Marino still avoid fourth place?

No. Two remaining wins would give them six points, while every other team already has at least seven. Fourth place is mathematically fixed, even though the last two results are not.

Will fourth place send San Marino back to League D?

Not under UEFA’s announced format for 2028/29. The competition moves to three leagues and third- and fourth-placed teams in League C remain in League C. This is not a claim that San Marino have earned promotion or a EURO place.

Who is San Marino’s head coach?

Roberto Cevoli is listed by FSGC and in UEFA’s current Nations League roster as senior head coach.

Has San Marino’s November squad been announced?

A final November call-up is not established in the checked sources. The completed Tirana team sheet and accumulated competition roster are dated evidence, not confirmation of the next eleven.

What is the documented injury situation for Berardi and Riccardi?

FSGC’s 29 September bulletin reported operations performed the previous day: right-knee ACL reconstruction for Filippo Berardi and left-knee meniscus surgery for Alberto Riccardi. It estimated six to eight months and two to three months of recovery respectively. Those were published estimates, not a new medical clearance or confirmed November selection.

Is Nicola Nanni still suspended?

FSGC’s 5 October preview listed Nanni as suspended for the completed Albania match. This page does not carry that dated absence forward into an unverified November ban, nor claim a fresh disciplinary clearance. A new official squad and matchday notice are needed for current eligibility.

Why is one opponent shown without a name or flag?

The label Other C1 team is an intentional editorial omission. The match date, venue, score and league points remain part of the record. It does not mean the organiser has not announced the opponent.

Why are Finland below the other seven-point team?

The two direct meetings produced a draw and a Finland defeat. UEFA’s head-to-head criteria therefore put the other team ahead despite Finland’s better overall goal difference. The table is not sorted by total goal difference alone.

Does the tactical board show Cevoli’s next formation?

No. It explains support, width and recovery relationships using names from the completed Tirana match sheet. It is not a confirmed November lineup, tracking data or an availability assessment.

Did San Marino win the Nations League in 2024?

They won their League D group and promotion, not the overall Nations League trophy. Those victories remain important milestones but are distinct from the World Cup and European Championship titles tracked here.

Have San Marino reached a World Cup or EURO finals?

No. The senior men have not reached either finals tournament. The Waiting Room profile and trophy story explain that longer record; this Now page covers the current league campaign.
