The lead is real. Now make it last.

Three wins have put Albania in front. A defeat in Helsinki and a late escape against San Marino explain why November is about controlling matches, not admiring the table.

Latest result: Albania 2–1 San Marino

6 October 2026 · full time

FSHF’s completed-match report credits Asllani with both Albania goals. A late penalty settled a match that had been level in the second half. The points are valuable; needing a late winner also leaves a clear question about how to finish an attack before the game becomes anxious.

Where Albania stand now

The current situation

Albania are two points clear in Group C1 with two games remaining. Nine points, eight goals scored and three conceded describe a promising opening window, but not a settled campaign. The remaining opponents are the two teams close enough to catch them.

There is a useful contrast in the results. Albania won 3–0 away to San Marino, yet the return match required a late winner. Finland, meanwhile, recovered from an early deficit to beat Albania in Helsinki. The same side can produce a convincing scoreline and still have difficult decisions to solve when a match changes shape.

That makes the home game against Finland the central November test. Albania need the next pass to remain available when the first route closes: a midfielder facing forward, a runner offering depth and a defender ready to protect the space behind them. The trip to face Belarus then completes the league phase.

Ahead, but not beyond reach

Nine points from four matches. Both remaining opponents have seven, so the lead matters without making the final order inevitable.

Asllani needs options around him

A midfielder can deliver the first pass or set piece; a useful attack also needs a second receiver. The diagram explores those relationships, not an official November XI.

Tirana first, then the final away test

Finland on 12 November, Belarus on 15 November. Times use explicit CET and UTC labels; the second venue remains unconfirmed in this briefing.

Our readingThe challenge is to turn an advantage on the scoreboard into control of the next few actions. The following tactical board is editorial analysis, not a statement of Maran’s intended formation.

Results and dates come from UEFA and federation reports. Player references are dated; no November squad or continuing medical or disciplinary absence is assumed. Tactical judgments are TrophyDrought editorial analysis, not statements from the coaching staff.

The opening window, without the mythology

Facts first · interpretation second

Albania's 2026 checkpoint

9 POINTS

Three wins and one defeat in the four completed group games.

8–3 GOALS

The same match sample produced eight goals for and three against.

2 CLEAN SHEETS

The opening home win and the first San Marino game ended without conceding.

These are completed-match totals. They do not claim expected goals, possession or an invented performance rating.

A goal can change the opponent’s behaviour before it changes the quality of the match. If Albania retreat too early, the next attack starts farther from support; if too many players chase a second goal, the first counter can run through an empty midfield. Keeping one close passing option and one covering player is a practical way to make ambition and protection compatible.

Three questions that define the autumn

Editorial watchlist

Can Albania keep the second action alive?

A direct pass into Manaj is useful only if someone can receive the next touch. Muçi can occupy an inside pocket while a wide player holds the outside lane. The aim is not possession for its own sake, but an attack that still has two exits after the first defender reacts.

Can they defend the turnover, not just the penalty area?

The danger often starts before a centre-back has to tackle. When both wide players advance, a midfielder needs to remain within reach of the ball and the central defenders need a clear covering relationship. Otherwise a promising attack becomes an invitation to counter.

Can a lead change the rhythm without killing the attack?

Slowing the match and stopping the attack are not the same thing. A short combination, a switch of side or a controlled restart can take pressure away from the defence. The useful question is whether Albania can keep offering a forward option while choosing their moments more carefully.

Give the first pass two exits

Djimsiti starts the schematic move, Asllani offers the inside route and Manaj holds a forward reference. Muçi provides a nearby alternative. These are six named relationships from the dated player pool, not an official formation.

A return pass should be available before pressure arrives.

This diagram explains relationships, not a confirmed formation. Player availability, squad selection and roles can change before the match window.

Players who shape the next step

Roles, not a predicted XI
The first connection

Kristjan Asllani

His passing gives this explainer its starting point. Keeping the receiver close enough for a return pass can make the whole move less dependent on one difficult delivery. Goals and penalties are outcomes, not a guarantee of the next selection.

The cover behind the move

Berat Djimsiti

FSHF names him as captain in the latest completed-match lineup. On the board he represents the covering defender who helps a teammate advance without leaving the centre unprotected; the diagram is not a complete back line.

The forward reference

Rey Manaj

Named in the September squad and the October match reports. A striker can pin a defender or receive to feet, but the team needs a nearby runner to make either choice valuable. That relationship matters more than drawing an isolated number nine.

Squad watch: names are not November guarantees

A dated reference, not a new team sheet

Maran’s working group

The 19 September FSHF announcement lists Rolando Maran as coach. Asllani, Djimsiti, Ismajli, Mitaj, Muçi and Manaj are among the named players. That establishes the reference pool for this explainer, not the next starting XI.

The goalkeeper notice had a date

FSHF’s 4 October update said Simon Simoni replaced the suspended Etrit Berisha before the San Marino game. It also recorded Luis Hasa returning to the group. Those notices describe that window; neither establishes a continuing November ban, recovery or selection.

Broja and Bajrami are not automatic picks

Neither appears in the September list used here. A November squad is not established by the official pages checked for this briefing. Recheck new call-ups, withdrawals and disciplinary decisions before treating a familiar name as available.

Albania Now FAQs

Quick answers
When is Albania’s next match?

Albania host Finland at Air Albania in Tirana on 12 November 2026. Kickoff is 20:45 CET, equivalent to 19:45 UTC.

When do Albania play Belarus?

UEFA schedules Belarus v Albania on 15 November 2026 at 18:00 CET, or 17:00 UTC. A stadium and city are not established by the official sources checked here.

What was Albania’s latest result?

Albania beat San Marino 2–1 at home on 6 October 2026. This is the latest completed senior match established by the checked reports.

How many points do Albania have in the Nations League?

Albania have nine points from four Group C1 games: three wins and one defeat, with eight goals scored and three conceded.

Who are Albania’s Group C1 opponents?

Finland, Belarus and San Marino. Albania have two league-phase matches remaining, against Finland and Belarus.

Have Albania already secured promotion?

No promotion is claimed here. Albania lead by two points, but both remaining opponents can still change the final order.

Who is Albania’s coach?

Rolando Maran is named as Albania’s senior men’s coach in the FSHF squad announcement and October reports used for this briefing.

Has Albania announced the November squad?

A November squad is not established by the official pages checked here. The September list and October amendments are dated references, not a new call-up announcement.

Will Kristjan Asllani play against Finland?

His involvement depends on the new squad, availability and matchday selection. A previous appearance does not confirm a future place.

Are Armando Broja and Nedim Bajrami in the current selection?

Neither appears in the 19 September list used here. That does not establish their November status; check the new FSHF announcement before treating either player as selected or absent.

Is Etrit Berisha suspended for November?

FSHF’s 4 October notice described his suspension before the San Marino match. That notice alone does not establish a continuing November ban or confirm his next selection.

Why are Belarus listed above Finland on equal points?

Both have seven points. In their two completed head-to-head games Belarus took four points and Finland one; this is why the table does not simply order the pair by overall goal difference.

Did Albania qualify for the 2026 World Cup?

No. Their qualifying campaign ended in the play-off semi-final against Poland. The Nations League is a different competition and does not reopen that campaign.

Have Albania won the World Cup or the EURO?

No. Albania have not reached a World Cup finals and their two EURO appearances, in 2016 and 2024, ended in the group stage. The profile and historical story cover that record.

Is the tactical board an official Albania lineup?

No. It illustrates passing, support and cover using named players from dated official references. It is neither a complete formation nor a predicted November starting XI.
