Albania's first major finals appearance came at Euro 2016, where a 1-0 victory over Romania gave them their first finals win. They returned at Euro 2024 after winning their qualifying group, but again exited in the group stage. They have not reached a World Cup finals; Poland ended their 2026 qualifying campaign in the play-off semifinal. They have not reached a World Cup finals; Poland ended their 2026 qualifying campaign in the play-off semifinal.

Andorra's first competitive victory was a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over North Macedonia, then known as FYR Macedonia, in 2004. Their 1-0 win over Hungary in 2017 was also a World Cup qualifier, not a friendly.

Armenia have not reached a men's World Cup or European Championship final tournament. A documented qualifying milestone was third place in their Euro 2012 qualifying group, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan a leading player in that campaign. This was a qualifying-group finish, not third place at the finals.

Austria's best World Cup finish is third place in 1954. Their 7-5 quarter-final victory over Switzerland remains the highest-scoring match at a World Cup. In 2026 they reached the round of 32, where Spain beat them 3-0.

Azerbaijan have not reached a men's World Cup or European Championship final tournament. They won their home FIFA Series tournament in March 2026, an invitational competition outside this site's World Cup and continental-title definition. Baku hosted the 2019 Europa League final, which was a club event rather than a national-team finals appearance.

Since becoming independent, Belarus have never qualified for a World Cup or European Championship finals. Their senior team has remained competitive in qualifying groups at times, but has not converted those campaigns into a first major-tournament appearance.

Belgium were runners-up at Euro 1980, losing the final 2-1 to West Germany, and finished third at the 2018 World Cup. They reached the World Cup quarter-finals again in 2026. Belgium did win Olympic football gold in 1920; this site's wait applies to the World Cup and European Championship, not the Olympics.

Bosnia and Herzegovina first appeared at the World Cup in 2014, beating Iran 3-1 for their first finals victory. Their 2026 return brought a first knockout-stage appearance, ending with a 2-0 defeat by the United States in the round of 32.

Bulgaria's best World Cup finish is fourth place in 1994. They beat defending champions Germany 2-1 in the quarter-finals before losing to Italy in the semi-finals and Sweden in the third-place match. Hristo Stoichkov scored six goals and shared the tournament's top-scorer award.

Croatia finished third at the 1998 and 2022 World Cups and were runners-up in 2018. Their 2026 run ended in the round of 32, losing 2-1 to Portugal. They also lost the separate 2023 Nations League final to Spain, 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. They have won neither the World Cup nor the European Championship.

Cyprus have not reached World Cup or European Championship finals. They beat Spain 3-2 in Larnaca during EURO 2000 qualifying in September 1998, a national-team qualifying result rather than a club achievement. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fourth in Group H with eight points, without a finals place.

Estonia reached the EURO 2012 qualifying play-offs, losing 5-1 on aggregate to the Republic of Ireland. Their regional honours include six Baltic Cup titles, most recently won with a 1-0 victory over Lithuania on 9 June 2026. They finished fourth in their 2026 World Cup qualifying group without qualifying. Baltic Cup success is distinct from a World Cup or European Championship title.

The Faroe Islands beat Austria 1-0 in their first European Championship qualifier in 1990, then defeated Greece away in 2014 and at home in 2015 during EURO 2016 qualifying. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign included home wins over Montenegro, 4-0, and Czechia, 2-1, but ended third in Group L with 12 points and no finals place. These were qualifying results, not finals appearances.

Finland made their European Championship debut at EURO 2020, played in 2021, opening with a 1-0 win over Denmark and finishing third in their group. Teemu Pukki had scored ten goals in qualifying. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended third in Group G with ten points, without a finals place.

Georgia made their European Championship debut in 2024 and reached the round of 16 after beating Portugal 2-0, with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mikautadze. Spain ended their run with a 4-1 win. Georgia's 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended third in Group E with three points, without qualification.

Gibraltar joined UEFA on 24 May 2013 and earned their first senior men's competitive victory by beating Armenia 1-0 in the Nations League in October 2018. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fifth in Group L with no points. A Nations League match win is distinct from winning that competition or reaching World Cup or European Championship finals.

Hungary were World Cup runners-up in 1938 and 1954 and beat England 6-3 at Wembley in 1953. Their men's Olympic football gold medals in 1952, 1964 and 1968 are separate from the World Cup and European Championship tracked here. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended third in Group F with eight points, without qualification.

Iceland reached the EURO 2016 quarter-finals after beating England 2-1. Their World Cup debut in 2018 ended in the group stage, including a 1-1 opening draw against Argentina. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended third in Group D with seven points, without qualification.

Republic of Ireland reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 1990, losing narrowly to hosts Italy. Their other major-tournament landmark was Euro 1988, where they beat England 1-0 in Stuttgart.

Kazakhstan joined UEFA in April 2002 after leaving the Asian confederation. They won their 2022/23 Nations League group and earned promotion to League B, not the overall Nations League title. Their EURO 2024 qualifying play-off ended with a 5-0 defeat by Greece. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fourth in Group J with eight points, without qualification.

Kosovo joined UEFA and FIFA in May 2016. Their 2026 World Cup campaign reached the European play-off final, where a 1-0 home defeat by Türkiye on 31 March 2026 ended their bid for a first major finals appearance.

Latvia reached EURO 2004 and earned their first point at a major finals with a 0-0 draw against Germany on 19 June 2004. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fourth in Group K with five points, outside the qualifying and play-off places.

Liechtenstein won 4-0 away to Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying on 13 October 2004 and beat Iceland 3-0 in EURO qualifying on 17 October 2007. Those were qualifying-match wins, not finals titles. Their 2026 World Cup campaign ended fifth in Group J with no points and no qualification.

Lithuania won 3-0 away to Romania in September 2008 during qualification for the 2010 World Cup. That was a qualifying-match victory, not a World Cup finals appearance. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fifth in Group G with three points, outside the qualifying and play-off places.

Luxembourg reached the EURO 2024 qualifying play-offs but lost 2-0 away to Georgia in the semi-final on 21 March 2024. That was a qualifying tie, not a European Championship finals appearance. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fourth in Group A with no points and no qualification.

Malta have never reached a World Cup or European Championship finals. Their first UEFA Nations League win came in October 2020, when Steve Borg scored a stoppage-time header in a 1-0 away victory over Latvia.

Moldova have never reached a World Cup or European Championship finals. After relegation to League D in 2022, they won their 2024/25 Nations League group and secured promotion back to League C.

Montenegro reached the EURO 2012 qualifying play-offs in their first European Championship campaign but lost 3-0 on aggregate to the Czech Republic in November 2011. That was a qualifying tie, not a finals appearance. Their 2026 World Cup campaign ended fourth in qualifying Group L with nine points and no qualification.

Northern Ireland's 1958 World Cup run remains their defining tournament story. After a play-off win over Czechoslovakia, they reached the quarter-finals, where France ended the campaign 4-0; no later Northern Ireland side has gone further at a major finals tournament.

North Macedonia reached Euro 2020, their first major finals tournament, after Goran Pandev scored the play-off winner against Georgia. Their 2-1 qualifying win in Germany was another landmark, and they later reached the 2022 World Cup play-off final before losing to Portugal.

Norway reached the World Cup round of 16 in 1998 after a famous 2-1 group win over Brazil; their 1994 campaign ended in the group stage. In 2026 Norway reached the quarter-finals, establishing a new national best.

Poland finished third at the 1974 and 1982 World Cups. Grzegorz Lato won the 1974 Golden Boot with seven goals, while the 1982 side beat France 3-2 in the third-place play-off.

Romania reached the 1994 World Cup quarter-finals after beating Colombia 3-1 in the group stage and Argentina 3-2 in the round of 16. Sweden ended that run 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw. More recently, Romania's 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat away to Turkey in the play-off semi-final on 26 March 2026.

San Marino's Davide Gualtieri scored after 8.3 seconds against England in 1993, one of World Cup qualifying's fastest goals. In September 2024, Nicko Sensoli's goal beat Liechtenstein 1-0 for San Marino's first competitive win; a second victory later secured promotion to Nations League League C.

Scotland went unbeaten at the 1974 World Cup but exited on goal difference. Their 2026 return also ended in the group stage, so a first World Cup knockout appearance remains out of reach.

As an independent nation, Serbia have not advanced beyond a World Cup group stage, although Milan Jovanović scored the winner in their famous 1-0 victory over Germany at South Africa 2010. Predecessor Yugoslavia reached the semi-finals in 1930 and 1962.

Independent Slovakia reached the World Cup round of 16 in 2010, beating defending champions Italy 3-2 in Johannesburg. Robert Vittek scored twice in that landmark win, which remains Slovakia's first and only World Cup appearance since independence.

Slovenia appeared at the 2002 and 2010 World Cups without reaching the knockout stage. At Euro 2024 they drew all three group matches, reached a major-tournament knockout round for the first time and lost to Portugal on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Sweden were World Cup runners-up as hosts in 1958 and finished third in 1950 and 1994. They returned to the tournament in 2026 and reached the round of 32; Euro 1992 remains their best European Championship run, a semi-final on home soil.

Switzerland reached World Cup quarter-finals in 1934, 1938 and 1954, then matched that national best at the 2026 tournament. Their standout modern European run was the Euro 2020 quarter-final after eliminating France on penalties.

Turkey finished third at the 2002 World Cup and reached the Euro 2008 semi-finals. They returned to the World Cup in 2026 for the first time in 24 years, with the campaign ending in the group stage.

Ukraine reached the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals after eliminating Switzerland on penalties, before losing to eventual champions Italy. They also reached the EURO 2020 quarter-finals, played in July 2021, where England won 4-0. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in the play-off semi-final with a 3-1 defeat by Sweden on 26 March 2026.

Wales reached the 1958 World Cup quarter-finals and returned to the finals in 2022 after a 64-year gap. They also reached the EURO 2016 semi-finals after a 3-1 win over Belgium. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in the play-off semi-final on 26 March 2026: a 1-1 draw after extra time against Bosnia and Herzegovina was followed by a 4-2 defeat on penalties.

Angola made their only World Cup appearance in 2006, losing 1-0 to Portugal before drawing with Mexico and Iran. Their continental peak is the AFCON quarter-finals, reached in 2008, 2010 and the 2023 edition, which was played in 2024.

Benin's best AFCON run remains the 2019 quarter-finals, reached after a penalty-shootout victory over Morocco. Their first AFCON match victory excluding shootouts came on 27 December 2025, 1-0 against Botswana. Egypt then beat them 3-1 after extra time on 5 January 2026 in the round of 16 of the 2025 edition.

Botswana have appeared at two AFCON finals: 2012 and the 2025 edition, with both campaigns ending in the group stage. A 1-1 draw away to Egypt secured their return after missing six editions. Their 2025 campaign ended with a 3-0 defeat by DR Congo in the final group match.

Burkina Faso were AFCON runners-up in 2013, losing the final 1-0 to Nigeria, and finished third in 2017. At the 2025 edition their campaign ended in the round of 16, with a 3-0 defeat by Ivory Coast on 6 January 2026. The Stallions remain without an AFCON title.

Burundi's only AFCON finals appearance was in 2019. They secured qualification with a 1-1 draw against Gabon on 23 March 2019; their qualifying group included South Sudan. At the finals they lost all three group matches without scoring.

Cape Verde reached the AFCON quarter-finals on their debut in 2013 and again in the 2023 edition, played in 2024. Their first World Cup appearance in 2026 brought a round-of-32 place, where Argentina beat them 3-2 after extra time. A knockout-stage appearance is distinct from winning either competition.

Central African Republic have not reached World Cup or AFCON finals. They beat Nigeria 1-0 away in World Cup qualifying on 7 October 2021, but that was a qualifying win, not a finals appearance. Their 2026 World Cup bid ended after a 2-0 defeat by Comoros in September 2025.

Chad have not reached World Cup or AFCON finals. They defeated Mauritius in both legs of the 2025 AFCON preliminary round in March 2024, advancing to the qualifying groups rather than the tournament finals. They finished fourth in qualifying Group G with three points.

Comoros reached the last 16 on their AFCON debut in the 2021 edition, played in 2022, after beating Ghana 3-2. Defender Chaker Alhadhur then played in goal in the 2-1 defeat by Cameroon because their recognised goalkeepers were unavailable. Comoros returned for AFCON 2025 but exited in the group stage.

Djibouti have not reached AFCON or World Cup finals. They beat South Sudan 1-0 in the second leg of the 2027 AFCON preliminary round on 29 March 2026, but lost the tie 4-1 on aggregate after a 4-0 first-leg defeat. The second-leg win did not take them into the qualifying group stage or tournament finals.

Equatorial Guinea finished fourth as AFCON hosts in 2015, losing to Ghana in the semi-final and to DR Congo on penalties in the third-place match. They reached the quarter-finals in the 2012 and 2021 editions. Their 2025 AFCON campaign ended in the group stage, including a final 3-1 defeat by Algeria.

Eritrea have not reached AFCON or World Cup finals. They were runners-up in the regional 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup after a 3-0 final defeat by Uganda. They withdrew from 2026 World Cup qualifying, then returned for the 2027 AFCON preliminaries and beat Eswatini 4-1 on aggregate in March 2026. That advanced them to qualifying groups, not the AFCON finals.

Eswatini, formerly Swaziland, have not reached AFCON or World Cup finals. Their regional COSAFA Cup results include third place in 2016 and 2021, with other semi-final appearances in 1999, 2002 and 2003. Eritrea eliminated them 4-1 on aggregate in the 2027 AFCON preliminary round in March 2026, before the qualifying group stage.

Gabon reached the AFCON quarter-finals in 1996 and again as co-hosts in 2012. Their 2025 AFCON campaign ended in the group stage. Their bid to reach the 2026 World Cup ended with a 4-1 extra-time defeat by Nigeria in the African qualifying play-off semi-final on 13 November 2025.

The Gambia reached the AFCON quarter-finals on their debut at the 2021 edition, played in 2022, beating Tunisia and Guinea before a 2-0 defeat by hosts Cameroon. They missed AFCON 2025 after finishing third in their qualifying group with eight points. Their 2026 World Cup campaign also ended in qualifying.

Guinea were AFCON runners-up in 1976, when a final round-robin group decided the title; their last match was a 1-1 draw with champions Morocco, not a defeat in a knockout final. They reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 edition, played in 2024, but missed AFCON 2025 after a 1-0 qualifying defeat by Tanzania. Their 2026 World Cup campaign ended in qualifying.

Guinea-Bissau appeared at four consecutive AFCON editions from 2017 through 2023, exiting in the group stage each time without a finals match victory. They missed AFCON 2025 after losing their last qualifier 2-1 to Mozambique. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying hopes ended following a 1-0 defeat by Ethiopia in October 2025.

Kenya's six AFCON appearances through 2019 all ended in the group stage. They lost 2-1 to Cameroon on their 1972 debut; their first finals match victory came in 2004, beating Burkina Faso 3-0. They won the regional 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, separate from AFCON. Kenya missed AFCON 2025 but are confirmed as 2027 co-hosts alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

Lesotho reached the regional COSAFA Cup final in both 2000 and 2023, not just 2000. They lost the two-legged 2000 final to Zimbabwe 6-0 on aggregate and the 2023 final to Zambia 1-0. COSAFA is a southern African regional competition, separate from the Africa Cup of Nations tracked in this ranking.

Liberia appeared at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996 and 2002, exiting in the group stage on both occasions. They beat Gabon 2-1 on their 1996 finals debut. They did not qualify for the 2025 edition, so 2002 remains their latest AFCON finals appearance.

Libya were AFCON runners-up as hosts in 1982, losing to Ghana on penalties, and last appeared at AFCON in 2012. They also won CHAN in 2014, beating Ghana 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. CHAN is a separate continental competition for home-based players, not an AFCON title; this page tracks the World Cup and AFCON. Libya did not qualify for AFCON 2025.

Madagascar's AFCON debut in 2019 ended in the quarter-finals, with a 3-0 defeat by Tunisia after they had eliminated DR Congo in the round of 16. They later reached the final of the separate CHAN 2024 edition, played in 2025, losing 3-2 to Morocco on 30 August 2025. CHAN is for home-based players and is not an AFCON title.

Malawi reached the AFCON knockout stage for the first time in the 2021 edition, played in 2022, before losing 2-1 to Morocco in the round of 16. Their earlier finals appearances were in 1984 and 2010. They missed AFCON 2025 despite closing their qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso.

Mali were AFCON runners-up in 1972 and also reached the semi-finals in 1994, 2002, 2004, 2012 and 2013, taking bronze in the last two of those editions. Their 2025 AFCON campaign, played across 2025 and 2026, ended in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 defeat by Senegal in January 2026.

Mauritania earned their first AFCON finals victory by beating Algeria 1-0 on 23 January 2024, during the 2023 edition, and reached the round of 16 for the first time. Cape Verde then eliminated them 1-0. They missed AFCON 2025 after finishing third in their qualifying group with seven points.

Mauritius made their AFCON finals debut in 1974. They also won the Indian Ocean Island Games football tournament in 1985 and 2003; these regional gold medals are separate from the World Cup and AFCON titles tracked here. At AFCON 1974, they lost 4-1 to eventual champions Zaire, now DR Congo.

Mozambique earned their first AFCON finals match victory by beating Gabon 3-2 on 28 December 2025 and reached the knockout stage for the first time in the 2025 edition. Their campaign ended with a 4-0 defeat by Nigeria in the round of 16 on 5 January 2026. The edition's name does not mean every match was played in 2025.

Namibia earned their first AFCON finals match victory by beating Tunisia 1-0 on 16 January 2024, during the 2023 edition. Their first knockout appearance ended with a 3-0 round-of-16 defeat by Angola later that month. They also won the regional COSAFA Cup in 2015, beating Mozambique 2-0 in the final; that is separate from an AFCON title.

Niger reached the AFCON finals in 2012 and 2013. They missed qualification for the 2025 edition despite beating Sudan 4-0 and Ghana 2-1 in their last two qualifying matches, finishing one point short of a finals place. Those victories were in qualifying, not at the AFCON finals.

Rwanda's only AFCON finals appearance was in 2004, when they beat DR Congo and drew with Guinea but did not reach the knockout stage. In qualifying for the 2025 edition they won 2-1 away to Nigeria on the final matchday and finished on eight points, level with Benin. Benin took the qualifying place on the head-to-head record, so Rwanda's return to the finals did not materialise.

Sao Tome and Principe's 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign ended in the preliminary round in March 2024. A 1-1 first-leg draw with South Sudan was followed by a 0-0 return match in Berkane on 26 March. South Sudan advanced on away goals at 1-1 on aggregate; this was a qualifying tie, not an AFCON finals appearance.

Seychelles won football gold at the 2011 Indian Ocean Island Games, a separate regional honour rather than an AFCON title. Their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign ended in the preliminary round in March 2026: after a goalless first leg, they lost 2-1 to Lesotho in the return match and on aggregate.

Sierra Leone returned for the 2021 AFCON edition, played in January 2022, after last appearing in the 1996 edition. Draws with Algeria and Ivory Coast kept them in contention, but a 1-0 defeat by Equatorial Guinea in the final group match ended their campaign without a place in the knockout stage. The edition name and the calendar year of the matches are different.

Somalia advanced from the 2027 AFCON preliminary round on 31 March 2026 after two goalless draws with Mauritius. A 4-2 penalty shoot-out victory settled the tie and put the Ocean Stars into the next qualifying stage. That was progress in qualifying, not qualification for the AFCON finals or a continental title.

South Sudan advanced from the 2027 AFCON preliminary round with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Djibouti in March 2026. A 4-0 first-leg win proved decisive despite a 1-0 defeat in the return match in Juba on 29 March. Reaching the next qualifying round did not mean the Bright Stars had qualified for the AFCON finals; the senior tie is also distinct from the separate Under-23 competition.

Tanzania reached the AFCON knockout stage for the first time in the 2025 edition after a 1-1 draw with Tunisia on 30 December 2025. Their round-of-16 campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat by hosts Morocco on 4 January 2026. The tournament's 2025 edition name does not mean every match was played in that calendar year.

Togo made their World Cup debut in 2006 after Emmanuel Adebayor scored 11 goals to lead the African qualifying scoring chart. They later reached the AFCON quarter-finals for the first time in the 2013 edition. Leading the qualifying scoring chart and reaching the last eight are separate achievements from winning a World Cup or AFCON title.

Uganda reached the 1978 AFCON final and lost 2-0 to hosts Ghana in Accra. The Cranes later reached the round of 16 in 2019. Their 2025 AFCON campaign ended in the group stage after a 3-1 defeat by Nigeria in December 2025; the next edition in 2027 will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Zimbabwe's 2025 AFCON appearance was their sixth, following the 2004, 2006, 2017, 2019 and 2021 editions. Their latest campaign ended with a 3-2 defeat by South Africa on 29 December 2025, leaving them bottom of Group B with one point. Like their previous five appearances, it ended before the knockout stage; playing at AFCON is distinct from winning the title.

Afghanistan have not reached a FIFA World Cup or AFC Asian Cup final tournament. Their 2013 SAFF Championship title is a separate regional honour outside this site's major-trophy definition. They finished their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign with two points in Group E.

Bahrain's best Asian Cup finish is fourth place in 2004. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, they lost the intercontinental play-off 2-1 on aggregate to Trinidad and Tobago. Their regional honours include the 2019 Gulf Cup and the 2024 edition, won in January 2025. Those Gulf Cup successes are distinct from an AFC Asian Cup title.

Bangladesh have never reached the World Cup finals, but they played at the 1980 AFC Asian Cup and exited in the group stage. They also won the 2003 SAFF Championship on home soil. That regional title remains the clearest senior men's landmark in the country's modern football history.

Bhutan reached the semi-finals of the regional SAFF Championship in 2008. Their 4-0 friendly win over Montserrat on 30 June 2002, the day of the World Cup final, was documented in The Other Final; it was not a World Cup match. Bhutan did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup or 2027 Asian Cup.

Brunei returned to the AFF Championship group stage in 2022 after a 26-year absence. They also finished fourth at the 2016 AFC Solidarity Cup, a separate competition from the AFC Asian Cup. Brunei have never reached World Cup or Asian Cup finals, and their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign ended without qualification.

Cambodia's best AFC Asian Cup finish remains fourth place in 1972, when they competed as Khmer Republic. They shared the 1973 President's Cup title with Myanmar, a separate honour rather than an Asian Cup title. Pakistan eliminated them from 2026 World Cup qualifying, 1-0 on aggregate; Sri Lanka then ended their 2027 Asian Cup campaign on penalties.

China PR's only senior men's World Cup finals appearance was in 2002, when they lost all three group matches without scoring. They were AFC Asian Cup runners-up in 1984 and, as hosts, in 2004. They won the regional East Asian championship in 2005 and 2010, a separate competition. Their 2026 World Cup campaign ended in the third round of Asian qualifying.

Competing as the Republic of China, Chinese Taipei won Asian Games football gold in 1954 and 1958, then finished third at the 1960 AFC Asian Cup and fourth in 1968. They have not appeared at the Asian Cup finals since 1968 or qualified for the senior men's World Cup finals. Their 2026 World Cup campaign ended in the second qualifying round. Asian Games gold is distinct from an AFC Asian Cup title.

Guam earned their first World Cup qualifying victory by beating Turkmenistan 1-0 in June 2015, then defeated India 2-1 in the same joint qualifying campaign. Those were qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup, not finals matches. Singapore ended Guam's 2026 World Cup bid in October 2023, winning their first-round tie 3-1 on aggregate.

Hong Kong hosted the first Asian Cup in 1956 and finished third, returning in 1964, 1968 and the 2023 edition, played in 2024. Their latest finals campaign ended with three group defeats. Singapore's 2-1 qualifying win ended their 2027 Asian Cup hopes. Hong Kong won the separate FIFA ASEAN Challenge Cup in October 2026, beating Cambodia 2-0; that is not an AFC Asian Cup title.

India qualified by default for the 1950 World Cup but withdrew before the finals. They finished runners-up at the 1964 Asian Cup, a round-robin tournament without a final match. Their Asian Games football gold medals in 1951 and 1962 and 2008 AFC Challenge Cup title are separate honours, not AFC Asian Cup victories. India did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup or the 2027 Asian Cup.

Indonesia's World Cup history includes the Dutch East Indies' appearance in 1938, losing 6-0 to Hungary. Their first Asian Cup knockout appearance came at the 2023 edition, played in 2024, when they reached the round of 16. They missed the 2026 World Cup but qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup. Their 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup Division One title is a separate regional honour.

Jordan reached their first Asian Cup final at the 2023 edition, played in 2024, beating South Korea 2-0 in the semi-final before losing 3-1 to Qatar. Their World Cup debut in 2026 ended in the group stage, with a closing 3-1 defeat by Argentina. They have qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup but have yet to win either tracked competition.

Korea DPR reached the 1966 World Cup quarter-finals after beating Italy 1-0, then lost 5-3 to Portugal despite leading 3-0. They finished fourth at the 1980 Asian Cup and won the separate AFC Challenge Cup in 2010 and 2012. Their 2026 World Cup bid ended bottom of their third-round qualifying group, but they qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup.

Kyrgyz Republic made their AFC Asian Cup debut in 2019 and reached the round of 16 after Vitalij Lux scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over the Philippines. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying bid ended in the third round, but they qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup.

Laos finished third at the 2016 AFC Solidarity Cup after beating Brunei Darussalam 3-2; that competition is separate from the AFC Asian Cup. Their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign ended with a 1-0 win over Nepal on 31 March 2026, but third place with six points was not enough to qualify.

Lebanon hosted the AFC Asian Cup in 2000 and returned for the 2019 and 2023 editions. The 2023 edition was played in 2024; Lebanon's campaign ended in the group stage after a 2-1 defeat by Tajikistan. They missed qualification for the 2027 edition after losing 2-0 to Yemen on 4 June 2026.

Macau were runners-up at the 2016 AFC Solidarity Cup, losing the final 1-0 to Nepal. That competition is separate from the AFC Asian Cup. Their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying bid ended in September 2024 when Brunei Darussalam won their preliminary play-off 4-0 on aggregate; reaching a later qualifying round would not itself have meant reaching the finals.

Malaysia beat the United Arab Emirates 2-0 at the 1980 Asian Cup and closed the 2023 edition, played in 2024, with a 3-3 draw against Korea Republic. They did not qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup: AFC recorded 0-3 forfeits against Nepal and Vietnam for fielding ineligible players, and their campaign ended with a 3-1 defeat by Vietnam on 31 March 2026.

Maldives won the regional SAFF Championship in 2008 and 2018, beating India 1-0 and 2-1 in the respective finals. These are South Asian regional titles, not AFC Asian Cup titles. Their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign ended without qualification despite a closing 2-1 win over Timor-Leste on 31 March 2026.

Mongolia won the home leg of their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying play-off against Timor-Leste 2-0 on 10 September 2024, but a 4-1 first-leg defeat meant a 4-3 aggregate loss and elimination. The victory was in qualifying, not at an Asian Cup finals tournament, and did not keep their 2027 qualification bid alive.

Myanmar, then competing as Burma, finished second in the five-team round-robin at the 1968 Asian Cup; there was no separate final match. They also won Asian Games football gold in 1966 and shared the 1970 gold with Korea Republic, honours separate from the Asian Cup. Their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign ended without a finals place, despite a closing 2-1 win over Pakistan on 31 March 2026 and 12 points.

Nepal won the inaugural AFC Solidarity Cup in 2016, beating Macau 1-0 in the final in Kuching. The Solidarity Cup was a separate AFC competition, not a South Asian regional championship or an AFC Asian Cup title. Their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign ended without qualification after a closing 1-0 defeat by Laos on 31 March 2026.

Northern Mariana Islands became the AFC's 47th full member in 2020 after previously being an associate member. They are not a FIFA member, so AFC membership does not give them entry to FIFA World Cup qualifying. Entry to an Asian Cup edition depends on that competition's regulations; AFC membership and World Cup eligibility are not interchangeable.

Oman reached the Asian Cup round of 16 for the first time in 2019, losing 2-0 to Iran. They also won the regional Gulf Cup in 2009 and the 2017 edition, whose final was played in January 2018; those are not Asian Cup titles. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in the Asian play-offs after a 2-1 defeat by the United Arab Emirates in October 2025.

Pakistan's first win in joint World Cup and Asian Cup qualifying came on 17 October 2023: a 1-0 victory over Cambodia also secured a 1-0 aggregate success and a place in Round 2. Their separate final-round campaign for the 2027 Asian Cup ended with two points after a 2-1 defeat by Myanmar on 31 March 2026; they did not qualify for those finals.

Palestine won the separate AFC Challenge Cup in 2014, beating the Philippines 1-0 to qualify for their first Asian Cup in 2015. At the 2023 Asian Cup, played in January 2024, they beat Hong Kong, China 3-0 for their first finals match victory and first knockout appearance, before losing 2-1 to Qatar in the round of 16. The Philippines made their Asian Cup finals debut in 2019; their group campaign ended with a 3-1 defeat by Kyrgyz Republic. They also returned to the semi-finals of the separate ASEAN Championship in 2024. A 1-1 draw away to Tajikistan on 31 March 2026 left both teams on 14 points in 2027 Asian Cup qualifying, but Tajikistan advanced on goal difference and the Philippines missed the finals.

Singapore's only Asian Cup finals appearance so far was as hosts in 1984, but they have now qualified for the 2027 edition. A 2-1 win away to Hong Kong, China on 18 November 2025 secured their first qualification on merit; it was not yet an appearance at the future finals. They also won the separate regional ASEAN Championship in 1998, 2004, 2007 and 2012, honours distinct from an Asian Cup title.

Sri Lanka reached the final round of 2027 Asian Cup qualifying after beating Cambodia 4-2 on penalties in September 2024, following a 2-2 second-leg draw after extra time and a goalless first leg. Their group campaign ended with a 3-1 win away to Chinese Taipei on 31 March 2026, but Thailand took the group's finals place. Neither a play-off win nor a qualifying match victory is an Asian Cup title.

Syria reached the Asian Cup knockout stage for the first time in the 2023 edition, played in January 2024. The run ended against Iran in the round of 16: 1-1 after extra time and a 5-3 defeat on penalties. Syria subsequently qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup and finished their qualifying group on 18 points after a closing 5-1 win over Afghanistan in March 2026; that qualification is not an Asian Cup title.

Thailand finished third as hosts of the 1972 Asian Cup, beating Khmer Republic 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the third-place match. They qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup with a 2-1 home win over Turkmenistan on 31 March 2026, decided by Manuel Bihr's 89th-minute header. That secured a future finals place, not an Asian Cup title.

Timor-Leste reached the 2026 ASEAN Championship group stage with a 6-1 aggregate play-off win over Brunei, completed by a 3-1 second-leg victory in June 2026. Their regional finals campaign ended with four group defeats, including a closing 3-0 loss to Cambodia in August. The ASEAN Championship is a regional competition, distinct from the AFC Asian Cup and the World Cup.

Turkmenistan played at the Asian Cup finals in 2004 and 2019. Their 2019 group campaign ended with a 3-1 defeat by Oman. Their next return attempt ended on 31 March 2026, when Thailand won the decisive 2027 qualifier 2-1 with an 89th-minute goal; Turkmenistan had needed only a draw to qualify.

The United Arab Emirates finished runners-up at the 1996 Asian Cup on home soil after losing to Saudi Arabia on penalties, and took third place in 2015 with a 3-2 win over Iraq. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in November 2025: Iraq won the return play-off leg 2-1 and the tie 3-2 on aggregate. A qualifying play-off and an Asian Cup finals match are different competitions.

Uzbekistan finished fourth at the 2011 Asian Cup after reaching the semi-finals and losing the third-place match 3-2 to Korea Republic. Their first World Cup finals appearance came in 2026 and ended with three defeats in Group K. Reaching a semi-final or making a World Cup debut is distinct from winning the continental or world title tracked here.

Vietnam reached the 2019 Asian Cup quarter-finals after beating Jordan 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. They qualified for the 2027 edition and closed their qualifying group with a 3-1 win over Malaysia on 31 March 2026. Vietnam also retained the separate regional ASEAN Championship in August 2026, beating Thailand 4-2 on aggregate; that regional title is not an Asian Cup trophy.

Yemen made their Asian Cup debut as a unified nation in 2019 and lost all three group matches. They have since qualified for the 2027 edition: a 2-0 win over Lebanon on 4 June 2026 took them to the top of qualifying Group B with 14 points. Their next finals group includes Korea Republic, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam; qualification does not mean those future finals have already been played.

Anguilla recorded their first Concacaf Nations League victory in September 2024, beating Turks and Caicos Islands 2-0. This was a Nations League group match, not qualification for the World Cup or Gold Cup finals.

Antigua and Barbuda remain without a World Cup or Gold Cup finals appearance. They played in the 2023 Gold Cup preliminaries but lost 5-0 to Guadeloupe; that preliminary-round appearance was not a place in the finals.

Aruba have never reached the World Cup or Gold Cup main finals. A documented milestone came in the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League, when they won League C Group B and earned promotion to League B. This was a lower-division group achievement, not the overall Nations League championship.

The Bahamas have never reached the World Cup or Gold Cup main finals. They reached the 2021 Gold Cup preliminary round but lost 2-0 to Guadeloupe. That was a qualifying-stage appearance, not participation in the main finals.

Barbados have never reached the World Cup or Gold Cup main finals. They won League C Group A in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League, earning promotion to League B and a place in the 2021 Gold Cup preliminaries. Bermuda then beat them 8-1 in the preliminary round; a League C group win is not the overall Nations League title.

Belize made their Gold Cup main-finals debut in 2013 after finishing fourth in the Copa Centroamericana, Central America's regional championship and a Gold Cup qualification route. They lost all three group matches, against the United States, Costa Rica and Cuba. Their 2025 campaign ended in the preliminaries, leaving 2013 as their only Gold Cup main-finals appearance. They have never qualified for the World Cup finals.

Bermuda made their Gold Cup finals debut in 2019, finishing third in their group and beating Nicaragua 2-0 for their first tournament victory. In 2025 they reached the final round of World Cup qualifying for the first time, but were eliminated and did not qualify for the 2026 finals.

On 26 March 2024, British Virgin Islands advanced through a World Cup qualifying round for the first time, defeating US Virgin Islands 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw. Their 2026 qualifying campaign ended in the second round, with a 1-0 defeat by Jamaica in their final match on 7 June 2025. This was qualifying progress, not a World Cup finals appearance.

The Cayman Islands have not appeared at World Cup or Gold Cup finals. They earned their first World Cup qualifying victory on 8 June 2024, beating Antigua and Barbuda 1-0 in qualifying for the 2026 tournament. That result was a qualifying milestone, not a World Cup finals appearance.

Cuba reached the quarter-finals in their only World Cup appearance, in 1938, beating Romania 2-1 in a replay after a 3-3 draw before losing to Sweden. They won the regional Caribbean Cup in 2012 and reached the Gold Cup quarter-finals in 2003, 2013 and 2015. A Caribbean Cup title is distinct from the World Cup or Gold Cup tracked here.

Curaçao won the regional Caribbean Cup in 2017, made their Gold Cup debut that year and reached the quarter-finals in 2019. They secured their first World Cup qualification in November 2025 and completed their debut finals campaign in 2026, finishing fourth in Group E. They have never won the World Cup or Gold Cup.

Dominica earned promotion to League B by winning their group in the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in the second round, where a 3-0 victory over the British Virgin Islands was followed by a closing 5-0 defeat against the Dominican Republic. Group promotion is not an overall Nations League or Gold Cup title.

The Dominican Republic made their men's Gold Cup debut in 2025, finishing third in Group A and earning their first point with a 0-0 draw against Suriname. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in the second round, despite a closing 5-0 victory over Dominica. A qualifying win is distinct from a World Cup finals appearance.

El Salvador played at the 1970 and 1982 World Cups and finished second in the 1981 Concacaf Championship. Their best Gold Cup finish is the quarter-finals, reached six times, most recently in 2021. They exited the 2025 Gold Cup in the group stage and completed their unsuccessful 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-0 defeat in Panama.

Grenada played at the Gold Cup finals in 2009, 2011 and 2021. Their 2008 Caribbean Cup runners-up finish secured their first appearance; winning their 2019/20 Nations League B group later brought promotion to League A, not an overall Nations League title. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended in June 2025 despite a closing 3-2 win over Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Guyana made their Gold Cup finals debut in 2019, earning their first point with a 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago. Their 2021, 2023 and 2025 Gold Cup campaigns ended in the preliminaries, not the final tournament. They earned Nations League promotion in 2023/24, but their 2026 World Cup campaign ended in second-round qualifying in June 2025.

Jamaica played at the 1998 World Cup, beating Japan 2-1 for their only World Cup finals match victory. They were Gold Cup runners-up in 2015 and 2017 and won the separate regional Caribbean Cup in 2014. Their 2025 Gold Cup campaign ended in the group stage. Their 2026 World Cup bid ended with a 1-0 extra-time defeat by DR Congo in the intercontinental play-off final on 31 March 2026.

Montserrat lost 4-0 away to Bhutan in The Other Final on 30 June 2002, the same day as the 2002 World Cup final. The separately arranged match in Thimphu became the subject of a documentary; it was not part of the World Cup finals. Montserrat are a Caribbean team, while their opponents Bhutan are in Asia.

Nicaragua returned to the Gold Cup in 2017 after Juan Barrera's late hat-trick secured a 3-0 play-off win over Haiti and a 4-3 aggregate success. It was their second Gold Cup appearance, after 2009. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended fourth in final-round Group C with four points, after a closing 2-0 defeat by Haiti in November 2025.

Panama reached the Gold Cup final in 2005, 2013 and 2023. The 2023 final ended in a 1-0 defeat by Mexico, with Santiago Gimenez scoring in the 88th minute; Adalberto Carrasquilla was named the tournament's most valuable player. Reaching the final and winning an individual award are different from winning the continental team title.

Puerto Rico won all four matches in their 2022/23 Concacaf Nations League C group and reached the 2023 Gold Cup preliminary rounds. In June 2023 they drew 0-0 with Suriname and advanced 4-3 on penalties, then lost 2-0 to Martinique in the second preliminary round. That run stopped short of the Gold Cup group stage and was not a continental title.

Sint Maarten are a Concacaf member but not a FIFA member, so they do not currently enter World Cup qualifying. They won their 2022/23 Nations League C group to reach the 2023 Gold Cup preliminaries, where a 4-1 defeat by French Guiana ended their campaign in the first preliminary round. Chovanie Amatkarijo scored in that tie; it was a preliminary-round goal, not a Gold Cup group-stage appearance.

Saint Kitts and Nevis made their first Gold Cup group-stage appearance in 2023 after two preliminary-round shoot-outs. They beat Curacao 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, then French Guiana 4-2 on penalties after another 1-1 draw. The finals campaign ended in the group stage with a 5-0 defeat by Jamaica; winning the preliminaries did not mean winning the Gold Cup.

Saint Lucia reached the 2023 Gold Cup preliminary round but lost 3-1 to Martinique, ending that attempt before the group stage. In September 2026 they beat Bermuda 5-2 in Group B of Nations League B. That later match was a Nations League group victory, not a Gold Cup finals appearance or a continental championship.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines did play in the 1996 Gold Cup group stage, losing 5-0 to Mexico and 3-0 to Guatemala. That finals appearance is different from winning the tournament. In the September-October 2026 Nations League window, the Vincy Heat won all four matches to finish top of Group D in League B, including 4-2 and 4-0 wins over Sint Maarten.

Suriname made their Gold Cup debut in 2021 and earned their first Gold Cup finals match victory by beating Guadeloupe 2-1. Their 2026 World Cup qualifying run ended with a 2-1 defeat by Bolivia in the intercontinental play-off semi-final on 26 March 2026. That was not the play-off final: a further match would still have been required to reach the World Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago reached their first World Cup in 2006 after beating Bahrain 2-1 on aggregate in the November 2005 qualifying play-off: a 1-1 draw followed by a 1-0 win. They earned a point on their finals debut with a 0-0 draw against Sweden on 10 June 2006. Winning that qualifying tie was not winning a World Cup or continental title.

Turks and Caicos Islands beat the British Virgin Islands 3-0 in Group A of Nations League C in September 2026, with Billy Forbes scoring twice. That was a victory in the 2026/27 Nations League group stage, not qualification for the Gold Cup or World Cup finals and not a continental title.

The US Virgin Islands beat the British Virgin Islands 2-0 and 2-1 in July 2011, advancing from the first round of 2014 World Cup qualifying with a 4-1 aggregate win. In September 2026 they also beat the Bahamas 3-1 in Nations League C. These were qualifying and Nations League victories, not Gold Cup or World Cup finals appearances or continental titles.

Ecuador reached the World Cup round of 16 in 2006 after beating Poland and Costa Rica in the group stage. That remains their best finish; in 2026 La Tri returned to the knockout phase and exited in the round of 32.

Venezuela reached fourth place at the 2011 Copa America, their best senior men's continental result. The Vinotinto went unbeaten through the group stage and quarter-final, then lost to Paraguay on penalties in the semi-final before finishing fourth; they remain the only CONMEBOL nation never to qualify for a World Cup.

American Samoa compete in the Oceania Football Confederation. Their 31-0 defeat to Australia in 2001 became one of football's most notorious scorelines, before a 2-1 win over Tonga in 2011 delivered their first FIFA-recognised senior men's victory and inspired the documentary 'Next Goal Wins.'

The Cook Islands are a self-governing nation in free association with New Zealand, spread across 15 islands. Their senior team appeared at the OFC Nations Cup in 1998 and 2000, exiting in the group stage on both occasions.

Fiji remain regular OFC contenders. The Bula Boys finished third at the 1998 OFC Nations Cup, placed third again in the four-team 2008 league format and reached the semi-finals of the 2024 tournament.

New Caledonia finished runners-up at the OFC Nations Cup in 2008 and 2012: second in the home-and-away league in 2008, then losing a knockout final in 2012. The second run included a 2-0 semi-final win over New Zealand, before Tahiti beat them 1-0 in the final; that remains the island's best senior continental finish.

Papua New Guinea reached the 2016 OFC Nations Cup final on home soil. They drew 0-0 with New Zealand after extra time before losing the final on penalties, still the country's best senior men's continental finish.

Samoa have appeared at three OFC Nations Cups: 2012, 2016 and 2024. All three campaigns ended in the group stage. The consecutive 2012 and 2016 qualifications were an early breakthrough; their 2024 return left a first knockout-stage appearance as the next continental target.

Solomon Islands reached the 2004 OFC Nations Cup final after a 2-2 group-stage draw with Australia. Australia won the two-legged final 11-1 on aggregate, which remains Solomon Islands' best continental finish.

Tonga have never reached an OFC Nations Cup or World Cup finals. Their 2007 Pacific Games campaign, which doubled as 2010 World Cup qualifying, included a 4-0 win over American Samoa, but they did not advance from the group.

Vanuatu reached their first OFC Nations Cup final in 2024 as co-hosts. After beating Fiji 2-1 in the semi-final, the home side lost 3-0 to New Zealand, but the runners-up finish remains their best senior men's continental result.
